The purpose of this guide is to break down the specific ways you can utilize research methods in Conflict Analysis & Dispute Resolution and provide home base for you to complete your own research throughout the semester in Professor Lombardo's class.
Midterm: Research Proposal Project Part I
Purpose: This midterm assignment is intended to allow you to apply the skills you have learned thus far as a first step towards building a full research proposal which will be due at the end of the semester. The idea is that you have the ability to work towards your final exam, and be able to learn from this mid-point assignment to help grow and refine your knowledge and application of research method skills.
Directions: You will be putting together the first part of a research proposal for a topic in the conflict, political, or sociological field.
Using the skills and knowledge from this course thus far, your research proposal must include these initial components:
Your problem statement.
>This will outline both the issue and its significance.
The purpose of your study and its delimitations.
The theoretical perspective being leverage and why.
Your research questions or hypothesis.
Literature Review: This section must contain a narrative discussion of the scholarly literature you have researched and discuss the points below.
Note: At a minimum, you must have at least 6 scholarly research articles contained in this literature review.
What does the existing literature state about your research topic?
What are the similarities and/or differences in the literature on this topic?
>This could be results, theories and methods utilized, etc.
What are the gaps in the existing literature on this topic?
Submitting this assignment in a Word document.
Use of a cover page.
Appropriate in-text citations.
Appropriate references list/citations at the end of your proposal.
