You may have noticed that many areas of brain research are getting a lot of attention from the media. Many of the topics we will cover in class are talked about in the news – sometimes accurately and sometimes not so accurately. For this assignment, you will be required to choose a topic from class that has been covered recently in popular media (in magazines, newspapers, television, etc…) and do the following:

Many of the topics we will cover in class are talked about in the news – sometimes accurately and sometimes not so accurately. For this assignment, you will be required to choose a topic from class that has been covered recently in popular media (in magazines, newspapers, television, etc…) and do the following:
1) summarize the media coverage of the topic,
2) summarize the empirical research behind the news coverage and,
3) assess the accuracy of the reporting (what did they get right, what did they get wrong, what details did they gloss over).
A minimum of 3 sources are required (2 of which should be from empirical journals). Paper length should be 5-8 pages, double-spaced, using 12-point font. Details will be discussed further in class.
This paper will be due on December 8, 5pm.
