First Year Seminar (FYS) Library Support

A Libguide for FYS Faculty

Welcome FYS Instructors!

The aim of this Libguide is to assist you as you guide SU's First Year Students through their inaugural research and writing experience.

Information Literacy (IL) is one of SU' General Education Essential Competencies:

"Students will be able to determine the extent of information needed; access information effectively and efficiently; evaluate information and its sources critically; use information ethically and effectively to accomplish a specific purpose." (SU General Education Learning Outcomes)

SU Librarians aim to provide practical guidance on incorporating the five IL standards into your course and assignment design. These standards focus on:

  1. Identifying an information need
  2. Developing a search strategy
  3. Evaluating information and sources critically
  4. Using information effectively in their work
  5. Citing sources ethically

We look forward to working with you on your FYS. Please don't hesitate to reach out via email or to schedule a meeting directly via our appointment calendar. You can also make an Information Literacy instruction request via this form
