Self-archiving in SOAR@SU

  1. Register an account:
    1. Go to MD-SOAR and click on the Log In dropdown on the upper right hand side.
    2. Select "New user? Click here to register."
    3. Enter your email address. You will receive an email from MD-SOAR asking you to complete your registration.
Important note: When the MD-SOAR team receives your registration information, it must add you as a submitter to the collection associated with your program. It’s advisable that you use your SU email for registration so that the MD-SOAR team can easily identify your affiliation and program. If you are a student or are not registering with an SU email, you will need to contact the MD-SOAR team if you are planning to submit work, as they cannot identify your program affiliation by searching the SU directory.
    4. Follow the link in the email from MD-SOAR to complete your registration.
Note: Once the MD-SOAR team adds you as a submitter, generally within one business day, you will be able to submit your work to the SOAR@SU collection designated for your program.
  2. Submit an item to SOAR@SU:
    1. Go to SOAR@SU and click on the login dropdown on the upper right hand side.
    2. Enter your email address and password and log in. A black bar should appear on the left.
    3. Hover over the black bar and select New > Item.
    4. A list of collections you are authorized to submit to will populate in a popover. You can search by typing into the search box at the top of the popover and waiting for the list to update; do not press enter to search (it will take you to a submission page for the top item in the starting list if you do).
    5. Click on the collection you want to submit the item to. The submission page will open; this can take a moment to load.
    6. Enter the information about your item, upload your file, and select a license for your submission if applicable.
Note: Title and Type are required fields. We highly recommend you fill out as much other information as you can.
Important note: If you do not want to assign a Creative Commons license, do not click on or choose one of the options in the dropdown menu in the "Creative commons license" section; once selected, there is no way to remove the license and you will have to restart the submission from scratch.
    7. Check the box to agree to the SOAR@SU Distribution license, agreeing to grant SOAR@SU a non-exclusive right to reproduce, publicly display, and distribute your item at no cost to users world-wide.
    8. Click "Deposit" to submit your item and its information to SOAR@SU.
Note: You may instead click "Save for later" if you wish to continue working on the submission at a later time. Saved submissions can be found by going to the little person icon in the top right (you must be logged in) and selecting "My MD-SOAR". This will take you to a list of all submissions you've ever made to SOAR@SU. To find your in-process submission, click the "Status" filter on the left and select "Workspace". Click "Edit" to resume working on your submission.
  3. Receive confirmation: After the SOAR@SU team reviews your submission, you will receive a confirmation email that your item has been added to the collection that you selected.
