New Library System and Search Experience

The new system will help modernize our services and functions, provide more search options and an enhanced interface, and increase cooperation with other systems across our campus and with other academic institutions.

Timeline

Starting April 12 Minimal impact on library users expected overall, with some troubleshooting exceptions. We don’t expect the migration to have a significant impact on users’ access to e-resources and most online services. However, due to data freezes in some of our systems starting Friday, April 12, librarians and staff may have limited capacity to troubleshoot and correct access issues.
May 17 - May 23

Starting at 5:00 pm on Friday, May 17 though 7:00 am on Thursday, May 23:

  • Patrons will not be able to place new requests for books from other USMAI institutions.  If previously requested items arrive during this period, patrons will be able to check them out at the Library Service Desk.
  • Data about library users in our current system will be frozen to prepare for migration to the new system. For this reason, library users will not be able to request or renew materials in My Library Account.
  • Patrons will still be able to borrow materials as normal via a manual process at our service desks. Please be advised that it may take longer than normal to check out materials.
  • Library users will still be able to access e-resources online (e.g., databases, online journals, etc.)
  • Library users will still be able to use Interlibrary Loan.
May 23

New system goes live at 7:00 am on Thursday, May 23. While we expect library operations to continue as normal, there may be some delays as we officially roll out the new system.

  • The new search interface (SURF) and library system will be live. You will notice a new search box on the library homepage which will allow you to search SURF.
  • Patrons will be able to check out items from the library service desk as usual.
  • Library users will still be able to access e-resources online (e.g., databases, online journals, etc.)
  • Library users will still be able to use Interlibrary Loan.
May 25 - May 27 Campus libraries will be closed (Memorial Day Holiday). Library users will still be able to access e-resources online (e.g., databases, online journals, etc.).
May 28

All libraries and service desks will reopen on Tuesday, May 28 with normal summer hours.
