Great news for Distance Students!

Want a library book to be delivered to your home? Want articles or book chapters to be scanned and emailed to you? We can do that!

SU Libraries will ship books to your home address (continental US only) and scan and deliver excerpts from our print materials only for our students who:

  • are taking remote and online classes
  • do not come to the SU main campus regularly for classes.

Many of our resources are available online for everyone, including ebooks and articles.  Access articles on your topic by searching in general or subject-specific databases. You can access the databases from the A-Z Database list or from specific research guides created for your discipline or a particular course.  Articles are often available online in full-text format. However, if you don't find the full text of the article that you are looking for, you can always request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

If we have an article that you need in a physical journal/magazine in the SU Libraries, you can request digitization of this article, and we will deliver it to you electronically.  This is a service for our distance students only -- more information is available in the Digitization and Delivery Services for Distance Students section.

Digitization and Delivery Services for Distance Students

Students who identify as distance students will have the option to request scanned book chapters and articles from the SU Libraries print collection. Students will need to register by submitting a ticket through the Library Support Portal.

The ticket will require you to confirm that you are enrolled in a program of study that does not require regular attendance on the Salisbury University main campus.  This will trigger the “Request Partial Scan” button to appear when searching print books and articles in Salisbury University Resource Finder (SURF).

The request form includes the following text:

Scan requests will be evaluated for copyright compliance. Requests for more than 10% of the entire work will not be approved. Approved requests will be scanned by library staff and emailed in 1-3 business days.

Patrons must acknowledge the copyright statement before submitting.

When a request is placed, staff will be notified to pull the requested book or journal for scanning.  When the scanning is complete, the document will be emailed to you. If the file size exceeds what can be sent by email, you will be sent a link to access the document.

Book Delivery

For book delivery, a check box option will appear in the Get It section for all physical items owned by SU Libraries and other USMAI libraries. Click on Request Delivery to Home Address (Distance Students Only), and additional text will include a link to register as a distance student.  Books will be shipped via UPS to your address listed in the system, and you will be responsible for returning the items via UPS or in person.
