English 103 Library Support

Librarians and library instruction

Librarians are prepared to provide in-person library workshops tailored to the needs of E103 Annotated bibliography assignment in Unit Two.

  • These sessions can introduce students to library resources, databases, and search strategies relevant to the Annotated Bibliography source and citation requirements.
  • Emphasis can be placed on finding scholarly sources, evaluating information credibility, and understanding different types of sources (e.g., peer-reviewed articles, books, websites).
  • The workshop is organized with productivity in mind; there are two opportunities for students to find, save, and cite book and article sources that they can potentially use in the assignment.

Library instruction nuts and bolts

To scale up to SU's always-healthy number of E103 sections, six faculty librarians use the same lesson plan and library guide template that supports the Annotated Bibliography:

Please try to request library instruction at least two weeks in advance.

This instruction session is most effective when it takes place soon after the assignment has been administered, requirements discussed, and research topics identified.

When students complete our Keywords sheet and bring it to library day, we find that they have the most success in obtaining sources they can use before the workhshop's end. Attachment below.

Library instruction takes place in one of our three classrooms here on the first floor of the GAC.

Librarians also provide personal research consultations by appointment. If you have a student in need of some extra help, this can be a great option for personalized assistance.
