Tough Topics

A guide to help you find resources for difficult or potentially controversial topics.

How to Use this Guide

We at the library understand that the subjects mentioned in this finding aid can be difficult things to discuss, encounter, and/or experience. We present this information, as difficult and complex as it is, so that patrons can educate themselves about matters that affect their lives and the lives of those in their larger community, ask questions, pursue answers, and otherwise advocate in a manner consistent with their perspective.

We also recognize that those seeking information about these topics may be in the midst of crisis. If you are in crisis, we encourage you to reach out immediately to the appropriate crisis resources below. If needed, library staff at the circulation desk can help direct you.

How to Locate a Book

Call Number Locator

The call number of a library item is like its home address.

Copy and paste any call number you find in WorldCat Discovery to see where it lives in the library.

How to use the Mobile Checkout App

We know checking out books on certain sensitive topics in person can be a little awkward. But did you know that you can check out a book in the GAC without having to interact with anyone?

Just download the Meescan app to get started! The video below walks you through the entire process, or you can check out our full mobile checkout instructions.
