History of Baseball on Delmarva: Home

Introduction

The Eastern Shore has embraced America’s pastime from the earliest days of the game. In small towns along the shores of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, teams such as the Parksley Spuds, Crisfield Stars, Snow Hill Tigers, Slaughter Neck Giants, and the Salisbury Reds played to enthusiastic, sold-out crowds.

The Nabb Research Center, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, has collected, digitized, and photographed thousands of images, documents, and objects related to baseball on the Eastern Shore. In preserving these materials, we hope to inspire future generations to explore this fascinating part of Delmarva history.

This guide serves as a resource to connect researchers with the sources that we've collected and discovered, some of which were in existing Nabb Center collections and others that community members generously permitted us to digitize.

The collections can be further researched in Dropbox by clicking on the collection titles in the spreadsheet below. Please be aware that items may be protected by copyright and permission to use must be obtained from copyright holders. Visit the Nabb Center website or contact us for more information.
