Distance Library Services: Books

for distance students

Borrowing Books

Borrow books in person at any of the USMAI libraries by presenting your SU Gull Card. For SU patrons who do not have a Gull Card, submit an e-mail request to libcirc@salisbury.eduand an acceptable substitute card will be e-mailed within 3 business days. Present this card, along with another form of identification, at time of service.

Direct Borrowing (aka Patron Placed Hold)

A circulating book owned by any USMAI library can be sent to another USMAI library or a delivery site near you for pickup and return through Direct Borrowing.

Check out more information on My Library Accounts page.

Keep in mind Direct Borrowing is different from Interlibrary Loan  (through ILLiad). Click on the Getting articles and more tab above  to find a table that describes the differences.

Books shipped to Distance Students

If you live over 50 miles outside of Salisbury main campus, you can get books shipped to your home address.

Please refer to the Getting Articles and More tab for additional details.

eBooks

In addition to print books, the library also has a collection of  electronic books (eBooks) available through these two vendors:

EBSCO eBooks Collection (Provides access to Ebsco's eBook collection, the digital version of books, journals, and database content. Formerly NetLibrary.)

Electronic Books (Electronic Collections Online from OCLC)

Accessing and downloading eBooks is not always easy. You can access them in couple of different ways:

  • through SU Libraries 'Quick Search' from the library homepage
  • through the classic catalog
  • from the result list while searching a specific database
