Article Search Engines - Online and Freely Available
While the library pays for many scholarly peer-reviewed article databases, there are also other free databases on the open web that can help you find quality scientific articles. - US Geological Survey PublicationsFind full-text articles, book chapters, conference proceedings, and fact sheets from the US Geological Survey. One of the most valuable tools for geoscientists.
- PubAgFree online database from the National Library of Agriculture. Includes some full-text coverage, but most entries are citation-only. Request citation-only articles through Interlibrary Loan.
- PLOSOpen Access journal articles in the sciences. Scroll down to PLOS Journals and select the journal you want to search in.
- CORECORE is the world’s largest aggregator of open access research papers from repositories and journals. Many full-text PDFs are available online, but you can also request articles through Interlibrary Loan.

- Maryland MapsFrom the Maryland State Archives. Includes various current and historical maps for waterways, trails, cities, universities, and transportation.
- Nabb Center Finding AidsLocated on the 4th floor of the Guerrieri Academic Commons, the Nabb Center is particularly beneficial for historical maps of the Eastern Shore and Chesapeake Bay.
- Library of CongressSearch box located in the top right. The Library of Congress maintains a massive online repository that includes not only maps but articles, musical scores, legislation, film, photographs, and thousands of other historical US documents.
