Reference books & Circulating books and other information on the German People

Reference books often give you a good overview of a topic as a  STARTING POINT for your research.  These books have the word " Reference" or "StacksRef" before the Library of Congress Call #.   Example: Reference | GN307.C68 2001 is the location and Call # for Countries and Their Cultures.  NOTE: Reference books need to be viewed in the library, but passages can be scanned and emailed to you.

Circulating books in the STACKS (3rd Floor) can be good for more in-depth information on your topic. And you can even get books from other libraries through our "Direct Borrowing" or "Interlibrary Loan" services.      (Ask a librarian or library staff member about these.)

Journal/magazine/ newspaper articles can often give you the most recent information on a topic, but articles tend to be very focused on a specific aspect of a topic and are generally not as good as a books in terms of an overview or in-depth coverage of a topic.

In short, it is often best to use all three kinds of sources.
