1. Explore topic basics (casual web searching)

2. Background (library catalog: books)

3. Current research (library databases: journal articles)

4. Support your argument (source citation)

5. Drafts & revisions (research librarians & Writing Center)

    +Search for books

    1. Search Good Country People.

    2. Wrap the title in quotation marks. Notice better results?

    3. Limit by Format to BOOKS

    4. Use call numbers to locate books on the shelf. Use the Call Number Locator

    5. Open a book record and Cite/Export the book in MLA format.

    Remember to change your search strategy!

    • Search for works that treat it as a Subject:   A Good Man is Hard to Find-  This search finds books and articles that have studied the text.
    • Search for works that scrutinize the specific short story by title: "Good Country People"
    • Search the author's name: Flannery O'Connor  -  This search finds books and articles that place the author and his works under a microscope.
    • Genre: American literature or American short fiction   - This search would find books (probably anthologies) that may contain criticism about seminal works in the genre.
    • To each of these, you might add "criticism."
