African American Literature: Find Books

America is woven of many strands. --Ralph Ellison Epilogue to Invisible Man

Reference Books

Reference books are useful for finding basic information about authors and their works. They are a good starting point for any literature research project.

These books are located on the main floor of the library near the Research Help Desk and are for use in the library. The books shown on the right are some important ones for the study of African American literature.

Finding books BY and ABOUT an author

To find books BY and ABOUT an author, search the library catalog. Most of the books you find here will be shelved on the second floor and may be checked out.

To search for books that you can borrow from other libraries, use the dropdown menu in the search box. Look for books first in the "University System of Maryland and partners" first because these are quick and easy to borrow.
