The basics: searching in databases

Keywords:    news media    journalism    bias       evaluation         

Communication & Mass Media

1. news media = 40,000+ results.

2. Add bias = 933 results. 

3. Use the keyword recommendation to expand results: bias or prejudice or discrimination = 1152 results.

3. Add "evaluation" =  53

4. Use the asterisk symbol * to search for word variations of "evaluation." Using the asterisk symbol, evaluat* will find word variations such as evaluate, evaluating, evaluative, etc. This will expand your original search results 53 articles to 81.


Limiters

  • Limit to scholarly journals. Checkmark the Peer Reviewed box on the left side of your screen.
  • No link to "Full Text?" The Find It button searches for the article in our other databases.
  • Which of these are original research studies? Tip: find the METHODS section

Tip: your topics may go beyond the contents of Communication and Mass Media database. For example, you may need to find historical, psychological, or social aspects of your research to name a few. Consult the Databases by Subject box at the top-right box for these.
